“ENGLAND IS THE COUNTRY OF FREEDOM” AND “SOFT-HEARTED RUSSIA” IN TWO GENIUSES’ DESTINY (LAURENCE STERNE AND NIKOLAY LESKOV)
Abstract
The author analyzes the literature way of two geniuses - Lawrence Stern, the English writer of the XVIII
century, and Nikolay Leskov, the Russian writer of the XIX century, who had many amazing parallels in their
personal and creative destiny. Leskov, admiring Sterne’s writing manner, does not borrow the artistic ideas of the
English classic, but aesthetically "melts" them into the original author's system, the figurative informativeness of
which in its uniqueness is generated by the intuition of the creator
